13. | Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th Offer the usual refreshments. One Dunkins coffee & juice. Dunkins donuts too expensive, will look for an alternative like Market Basket. Mini muffins. Budget estimate of $150. We should be ready at 10am. Brenda Baum is going to be in charge of the event. Scouts will raise the flag, and we hope Scouts will play the bugle. Moved to approve $150 to cover costs.
Summer Events at the Common We discussed people to hire for performances. Rehire the Magician (Flippo was well liked, did an appropriate performance). August 27th? Ask Kelly at the Library about the Bubble Guy. AKA Jungle Jim? Balloon Magic? Does balloon tricks? Look into Cosmo Kelly (played at Stow Library)
Basketball Court and Lights Still have issues with the night lights. They were recently vandalized again. We need to call Casello Electric for an alternative wiring plan. Perhaps Call David Goulding on how to handle this problem.
Backyard Bolton May 13th at the Common. $25 fee for out of town vendors. 43 vendors are listed. Driving on the lawn has to stop once irrigation is installed. Goes from 10am to 1pm.
Discussion about Persons Park dock The dock needs a Chapter 91 hearing. Since we don’t know anything about it, we should avoid a hearing, and it should be removed from the park and disposed. We discussed the dock last meeting, and it appears very expensive. We can consider a proper safer dock and then seek approval from Cons Comm with a future Chapter 91 hearing.
Discussion about haybales at the Common for sledding protection Lisa received a call that the haybales are causing the grass to die. They are there to protect sledding children from hitting the rocks. We will move them off the grass.
Cleaning up various things We should clean up behind the Common shed. Ed can contact the Scouts to see if they need service hours. We are still looking into selling or repurposing the performance stage, taking up a lot of space. We also need to remove steel poles from the Memorial Stone house from the baseball dugouts, they have been replaced. Ed found the lock at the transfer station cabinet that we use is broken. He will purchase a new number-based lock.
Water test at the Common We should have the water tested at the Town Common.
Discuss a non-profit playground committee We considered having a community member create a 501C3 corporation that could solicit donations for a new playground.
First aid and CPR training We discussed first aid and CPR training for counsellors for summer program. On June 14th the Fire Chief is holding a training at 2:30. On the same day there is also a training called WINS FOR LIFE SERVICES. It costs $500, and takes 2 hours. Up to 20 people can attend. Moved to approve $500 cost for Wins for Life training.
Request to use the Common The Scottish dance team from Stow asked to use the pavilion at the Common on June 10th, 10AM – 12:00 pm. Moved to permit the dance team to use the Common.
