New art in the Bolton Public Library gallery December and January

In December and January, the library welcomes artist Lisa Nelson and her creations to the gallery space.   Those who enjoy Boston, Maine, amphibians, or flowers take note: you won't want to miss this show!

Based in Ayer, MA, artist Lisa Nelson has opened her first solo show at the Bolton Public Library. Lisa loves abstracting maps and creating diverse wildlife portraits. She loves what maps say about a place, its history, and how it fits into our worldview. She loves how they unlock the secrets to navigating our way through our world as well as finding our place within it. Examining the relationship of the natural world to its place on a map is to understand what is most sacred in our world. Her work explores this through the creation of each piece while also considering what makes each uniquely beautiful. There is so much in our world that is fleeting and her work strives to capture what she can before it fades from our view. She does this by meticulously studying each subject, drawing, and redrawing it until she finds what is distinctive about it. She looks for the eloquence in a meandering riverway or a serene long-limbed katydid. Once she finds what she wants her painting to focus on, she transforms it into bright paint pigments transmuted by water with brushes until it becomes something uniquely hers.

The library gallery is generally open during the library's open hours (Tuesday through Thursday 10-8, Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-2) but is occasionally limited by other activities in the space.  Visitors coming from a distance are advised to call the library at 978-779-2839 to see if events are taking place in the room at the time of an intended visit.
