Change is afoot in the region and the Town.  The Town is growing and the needs of our residents, farms and businesses, Town government and cultural facilities are changing.  The purpose of the Master Plan effort is to produce an update of Bolton’s 2006 Master Plan and address a full range of topics to be considered as Bolton moves forward in the next 10-15 years.

A Master Plan Steering Committee has been chartered and appointed by by the Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board to carry out the Master Plan effort.  It consists of 11 residents with a wide range of expertise and experience and 2 interns from Nashoba Regional High School.  The Steering Committee has a monthly public meeting to guide the overall process and assess progress.  Small task groups have been formed to address each major area of planning in the depth and breadth it deserves.  These include climate change, cultural and historic resources, economic development, housing, land use, municipal facilities & services, open space and recreation, population & demographics, schools, transportation improvement, resident survey, and water & sewer.  Each task group focuses on a specific area so that the 23 volunteers involved can commit for a reasonably short period of time.

To assure that the full breadth of the Plan scope is addressed and relationships among the many topics identified, each task group has developed a detailed task plan which has been reviewed and approved by the Steering Committee.  The primary activity of the task groups is research into their area of focus as it applies to Bolton including the experience of other towns in the areas they may apply to Bolton’s future.

IT’s ABOUT YOU – HELP US IMAGINE & GUIDE OUR FUTURE

However, the most important information must come from you, the residents of Bolton.  It is your Plan and to assure it meets your vision and needs it’s important that you get involved.  In addition to viewing our website and Facebook page, offering suggestions and attending our Steering Committee via Zoom (information on our Bolton Town website), participating in public forums, you can volunteer to work with a task group.

THE SURVEY

The first important way that you can provide input to the Master Plan is to respond to the Master Plan Survey developed by the Survey Task Group.  It will be available via several ways:

  • hardcopy document in the June 3rd  issue of the Stow and Bolton Independent with the Bolton ATM  Warrant;
  • on SurveyMonkey via links on the Bolton Master Plan website and Facebook page; and,
  • hardcopy available at Bolton Orchards and the Country Cupboard.

The Master Plan team will provide regular updates of our progress and interesting information that we believe important to inform the residents as the Master Plan is developed.

Please join us for background information and updates on our activities on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Bolton-Master-Plan-Steering-Committee-106362957727934/) and on our Bolton Town website (www.townofbolton.com/master-plan-steering-committee).

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
