The Bolton Agricultural Commission has purchased a share of World Farmers CSA
located on the Bolton Flats in Lancaster and will be raffling the harvest each week.
Community-supported agriculture (CSA) allows consumers to share the risk of farming
with the farmer. You purchase a share, or half share, of a CSA at the beginning of the
season and receive produce each week for a set number of weeks. World Farmers
CSA full share feeds 3-4 people or 2-3 people if primarily vegetable consumers. Each
week, the farmers at World Farmers will include: 7-10 seasonal staple vegetables, 1-3
types of herbs and one ethnic crop with a recipe suggestion. To win the weekly share
enter your name and phone number in the drawing box at the Bolton library.
The Bolton Agriculture Commission will select a name each Thursday over a 16-week
period starting July 4 (CSA runs from July 11- Oct 24th). Delivery/arrangement for pick-
up of the share will be the following Thursday. Winners will receive (1) week of locally
grown vegetables from the World Farmers CSA (a $35 value!). All winners must
respond within 24-hours of being contacted to claim the share. You must live or work in
Bolton to enter and one entry per family.
Flats Mentor Farm, a program of World Farmers, started in 1984 when a small number
of refugee farmers sought land and an opportunity to farm. Over 30 years later, the farm
supports over 300 refugee and immigrant farmers in accessing land, producing
culturally relevant food for their families and communities, and connecting to viable
markets in New England. The World Farmers CSA aggregates produce from Flats
Mentor farmers of all levels, from established commercial farmers to those who are just
starting selling their produce. See the World Farmers web site www.worldfarmers.org
for more information.
