Important Notice about Ash Disposal
The DPW requests that ashes from wood/coal/pellet or other stoves or fireplaces not be disposed at the Transfer Station. A recent disposal incident created a fire in the compactor.
Ashes are often thought of as being benign, or cooled enough for disposal. Smoldering ash can last for days and can ignite trash in a compactor, in the truck hauling the container or at the Transfer Station. This creates a hazardous situation for all involved.
