Mattress Recycling

Effective November 1, 2022, Mattresses and box springs received at the Transfer Station are to be segregated for recycling.  Residents must see the attendant to properly dispose of their mattress or box spring.

Should a mattress or box spring be determined to be unsuitable for recycling, the staff at the Transfer Station must record information about the mattress.  The Town is required to obtain this information to demonstrate to the MADEP and trash hauler that we are correctly recycling.

The costs to dispose of the mattress or box spring remains the same.

The reasons to reject a mattress or box spring as determined by the MADEP are

Excessively torn, punctured, soiled or moldy                Mattress or Box Spring infested with bed bugs or other pests

Twisted or crushed mattresses or box springs              Futon Mattresses, fold out sofa beds

Wet or frozen mattress or box spring
