Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Election POSTPONED

ANNUAL TOWN MEETING – MONDAY, JUNE 22, 2020 

ANNUAL TOWN ELECTION – MONDAY, JUNE 29, 2020 (12:00 Noon until 4:00 pm)

On March 23, 2020, the Governor signed into law Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020, which is “An Act granting authority to postpone 2020 municipal elections in the Commonwealth and increase voting options in response to the declaration of emergency to respond to COVID-19.”

The Board of Selectmen voted the following, at their meeting on the sixteenth of April 2020: 

In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 39, Section 9 to postpone the date of the Annual Town Meeting from Monday, May 4, 2020 to Monday, June 22, 2020; and, in accordance with Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020, titled “An Act Granting Authority to Postpone 2020 Municipal Elections in the Commonwealth and Increase Voting Options in Response to the Declaration of Emergency to Respond to COVID-19”, to postpone the date of the Annual Town Election from Monday, May 11, 2020 to Monday, June 29, 2020. The Board voted on May 7, 2020 to approve the polling hours from 12:00PM to 4:00PM.

In light of the widespread practice of social distancing, Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020 provides for an alternative to voting in person:

  • The law allows any person taking precaution related to COVID-19 to early vote/absentee vote by mail. All applications for an absentee ballot must be received by the Town Clerk before noon on Friday, June 26, 2020, the last business day before the election.  
  • Any person may apply for an absentee ballot by sending or emailing a signed request to the Town Clerk’s office: townclerk@townofbolton.com

Absentee Voting Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk before the polls close at 4:00 PM on Election Day, June 29, 2020.

The deadline to register to vote in the Annual Town Meeting and Town Election will be Tuesday, June 11th from 9am – 5pm. Please call 978-779-2771 if you would like a voter registration card mailed to you.  You may also register to vote ONLINE using the Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration System or check your voter registration status.
