Press Release: Town of Bolton Has Been Awarded a $975,000 MassWorks Grant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

From the Office of Bolton Town Administrator Don Lowe

October 18, 2018

At a ceremony held earlier today in Tolland, MA Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito and Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash announced the Town of Bolton has been awarded a $975,000 MassWorks grant.  Town Administrator Don Lowe accepted the award on behalf of the Town.

Working with its transportation consultant, BETA Group, Inc., the Town submitted an application to undertake the design and construction of significant transportation and safety improvements at the Main Street & Wattaquadock Hill Road intersection. These improvements will include a traffic light which will also communicate with our Public Safety Building, thereby creating a safe environment when emergency vehicles are responding to a call.

The application was a local team effort that required much collaboration and team work. The effort was led by DPW Director Joe Lynch and included the support of Town Administrator Don Lowe, Police Chief Warren Nelson, former Fire Chief John Mentzer, Town Planner Erica Uriarte, Bolton’s Public Ways Safety Committee, and BETA Group, Inc.

Design and survey work will commence soon after the contract between the state and the town has been signed. There will be several opportunities to gather public input and display project designs. Optimistically, construction could begin as early as next spring. The project could then be finished in June of 2020.
