Public Viewing of Camp Virginia Property - September 9, 2017

The public is invited to tour the 50 acre Camp Virginia Property at 96 Hudson Road, Bolton, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, 10 am – 2 pm. The event will be held rain or shine. Knowledgeable guides will be present to answer questions and provide tours. The first open house was held in July and had over 100 attendees. This is an opportunity for those who missed it to see the property.

Camp Virginia is a 50-acre former Girl Scouts day camp that was in use from the 1950’s until it closed in 2015. The Camp has 300 feet of water frontage on West Pond with a sandy beach front area and an acre of field beyond to provide many people with water access for swimming, non-motorized boating and fishing. There are existing changing rooms, a restroom, and a beach pavilion for shelter. Uphill from the beach, accessed by an existing trail, are two 40’ x 20’ pavilions. Each pavilion has picnic tables to seat approximately 60 people, grilling pits and three stall restrooms with modern pit toilets and water fountains.

Beyond the waterfront and picnic areas, the property includes raw forest and wetlands. It is anticipated that the park and forest will be open year round to allow hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and horseback riding.

The Town of Bolton is seeking a PARC grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to assist with the acquisition and permanent protection of the Camp Virginia Property. Acquisition of the Camp will provide an accessible recreation asset to residents of all ages in the Bolton community as well as visitors to the Town.
