Meet The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind at the Bolton Public Library

William Kamkwamba, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and author of a New York Times bestseller by the same name, will be at the Bolton Public Library on Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

William grew up very poor on a farm in rural Malawi. At the age of 14, using library books, he designed and constructed a windmill to generate electricity and a second one to pump water and irrigate crops. He also survived a drought-induced famine. In 2009 William gave a TED talk about his experiences. He has since given a second TED talk and graduated from Dartmouth College.

There is currently another drough-induced famine in Malawi, which has worsened since its onset two years ago. William will speak about his experiences and inventions.

The host for William's lecture tour is Dr. Brian Lisse, a Hudson, MA-based emergency physician and cofounder of Bridges to Malawi, an organization that offers medical care and seeks to eradicate malaria in Malawi.
