2010 Learn to Swim Program Welcome to the 2010 Swim Lesson Season! The Bolton Parks and Recreation Commission looks forward to a great year and we hope to see all the kids down at the beach this summer. Below please find useful information on the 2010 Swim Lessons, including some important changes for you to note. If you have any questions or comments, please contact: parks@townofbolton.com. Happy Swimming! |

Start Date and Time Change |
The start date for swim lessons has changed. Lessons will now always commence the Monday after the 4th of July. By doing so, we will not risk interfering with delayed school years due to snow cancellations. It will also aid parents in planning their summer activities and vacations since the start date will be consistent year after year. Additionally, the start time of the swim lessons will change to 9:00 a.m. with a new end time of 3:00 p.m.

Meet the New Swim Instructor |
We are pleased to introduce a new swim instructor, Kathy Breen. Due to scheduling conflicts, Bonnie was unable to teach the three sessions this year. For those of you who have had Bonnie teach your kids in the past, we apologize for the change, but we are certain you are going to love Kathy too. To learn more about Kathy, please read her biography and details [Link]online. Kathy will also attend the registration so make sure you get a chance to speak with her in person. |
|
Increased Lifeguards Coverage |
For the safety of our swimmers, we have added lifeguard coverage during the morning swim lesson sessions. This will enable the instructor to better focus her attention on teaching the kids their swimming skills. |
|
Learn to Swim Certification from the Red Cross |
Course certification cards issued by the Red Cross will be given to all children who successfully complete their lessons and learn the necessary skills to progress to the next level. Parents can use these cards to determine the appropriate level for their child/children the following year. |
|
Red Cross Learn to Swim Program |
The swim lessons offered by the Bolton Parks and Recreation Commission are based on the Red Cross Learn to Swim Program, which teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach children how to swim and to be safe in, on or around the water. For more information on the levels offered during the summer swim lesson program, please click the links below to see the American Red Cross fact sheets on each level. The levels offered by

|
Things to Consider |
- A parent or guardian must be present during their child’s entire swim lesson.
- Although the beach is open to the public during swim lessons, parents are asked to please keep other children from disrupting active sessions.
- Parents please do not distract the instructor during an active lesson. While your child is in lessons, please do not stand at the shoreline and call out to him or her. This is distracting for the instructor as well as for the other students.
- Please ensure that you arrive at least five (5) minutes prior to your child’s scheduled swim lesson. This will ensure that all classes start promptly and that your child does not miss important session recaps that are integral to his/her training.
