CALL TO ORDER
Chair Cathy Giunta called the meeting to order at 6:01 PM in Superintendent Office.
Chair Cathy Giunta requested a moment of silence in memory of Frank DeMeo.

MOTION

School Committee Student Report for 2/7/08
Current Events
- The Death of a Fellow Student- Frank DeMeo:
- Has caused a wave of sadness and grief at Nashoba among those who knew him well (esp. the wrestling team) along with those who didn’t
- At the same time- Support groups are available
- Boards are posted around the school so that students can share their memories of Frankie
- Overall, students are supporting each other in this rough time buts its going to continue to be tough
- Winter Sports Wrap-up
- Track:
i. Elite Meet last Sunday (top 24 from Saturday’s invitational went to compete)
1. Boys:
a. Anthony Raduazo finished 10th overall in the mile
b. Joe Doyle finished 8th in the 1000m
c. Boys 4X800 team finished 1st
2. Girls did well too:
a. Freshman Emily Clark set a new school record in the 55m hurdles
b. 4X200m team set the new school record as well
- Varsity Hockey:
i. Coming to an end
ii. 4 games left in the season- hoping to win them to even up their record of 4-8
- Skiing:
i. Last downhill race was today at Nashoba Valley
ii. Nashoba left its mark with some of the districts best skiers
1. Travis Johnson #1 in downhill
2. John Malley #3
- Spring Sports:
- Sign-ups up already- many have already shown interest
- DECA:
- International association of students studying marketing, management, and entrepreneurship
- Nashoba Students were involved with the business competition a few weeks ago where their business knowledge and management skills were tested in hypothetical business situations
- Only Nashoba’s 2nd year entering in the competition
- We placed in over 10 categories, earning various 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place awards

Grant Acceptances
Erin Keaney, a fourth grade teacher at Florence Sawyer School in Bolton, received a $2000. from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
Every Body Move Grant from The Massachusetts Governor’s Committee on Physical Fitness & Sports.

Monica CampoBasso made a motion to accept above mentioned grants seconded by Richard Fly IN FAVOR: Cathy Giunta, Mel Govindan, Richard Fly, Monica CampoBasso, Don Adams, David Horne, Lynne Colletti, and Brian Burke VOTED AND PASSED. UNANIMOUS (8-0-0)
Text Book Adoption
Mr. Wood provided overview of the proposed Text Book Adoption as well as sample Text Books. Mr. Burke requested Ms. CampoBasso provide her thoughts/input on same, discussion ensued. Mrs. CamoBasso inquired as to the level books needed for elementary grades and raised the question about high school sequence of science course. Mr. Burke questioned the appropriateness of dealing with this expense as a budget transaction in FY 08. Mr. Adams requested details on the funding for the text book adoption to include a per book cost analysis. Ms. Giunta questioned if the books are just text or if they are available in CD form. Mr. Fly requested Suzanne Wintle and Dan D’Amore be invited to future meeting.
Tuition Rates
Mr. King provided rates for review and a discussion ensued. Tuition handout was reviewed and explanation of rate increase was discussed. Mrs. Giunta questioned the lottery and S.P.E.D. slots and questioned if there is currently a wait list, discussion ensued.
MOTION
Don Adams made a motion to approve the FY 2009 Pre School / Kindergarten Tuition Rates proposed by Mr. King seconded by David Horne. IN FAVOR: Richard Fly, Monica CampoBasso, Don Adams, Cathy Giunta, David Horne, Lynne Colletti, Mel Govindan and Brian Burke VOTED AND PASSED. UNANIMOUS (8-0-0)
Transportation Bids
Mr. King received bids from First Student and Dee Bus. Mr. King passed out handout and review same with Committee, discussion ensued. Mr. King’s recommendation to the committee was to reject the present bids due to economical changes and send out to rebid.
Mr. Horne asked if we could couple with a neighbor district, Mr. King responded there would not be a cost savings. Mrs. CampoBasso asked if it would be more cost effective to go with a two year contract, Mr. King to research this. Mr. Govindan asked for timeline on rebid, Mr. King responded 3-4 weeks.
MOTION
Brian Burke made a motion to reject the current Transportation Bids on the recommendation of Mr. King, seconded by Monica CampoBasso. IN FAVOR: Richard Fly, Monica CampoBasso, Don Adams, Cathy Giunta, David Horne, Lynne Colletti, Mel Govindan, and Brian Burke VOTED AND PASSED. UNANIMOUS (8-0-0)
Citizens Comments
Mrs. Theresa Magnussen, Stow Sub Teacher, addressed an observation she made while Substitute Teaching; Mrs. Magnussen stating she observed a bus sitting idling outside of a school for one-two hours, she questioned this and was told that it happens on a regular basis.
Mrs. Magnussen raised her concerns regarding the possible pollution being filtered into the classrooms for which the bus was sitting outside of. Mrs. Magnussen also provide the Massachusetts Clean Air law which states an engine can not idle more than 5 minutes; discussion ensued: Mr. Wood to search.
Mr. Merrill requested a letter be sent to Comcast requesting that Channel 10 be accessible to Lancaster.

Cathy Giunta made a motion adjourn seconded by David Horne. IN FAVOR: Richard Fly, Monica CampoBasso, Don Adams, Cathy Giunta, David Horne, Lynne Colletti, Mel Govindan, and Brian Burke VOTED AND PASSED. UNANIMOUS (8-0-0)
The meeting adjorned at 7:23 p.m.
